Master the Saxophone with Expert Instruction
We recommend that most saxophone students begin lessons at 7 or 8 or older (we suggest beginners start with the alto saxophone).
The alto saxophone is the most popular and common instrument for beginning saxophone students to start on. The tenor saxophone is bigger, bulkier, and requires much more lung capacity and breath control to play than the alto saxophone. Students usually play the alto saxophone for at least several years before switching to the tenor saxophone (or soprano or baritone saxophone). The soprano saxophone is also a common instrument but is generally ideal for intermediate and advanced players due to the requirements of the student’s technique and embouchure.
